Wat Pho is the oldest and one of the most famous temples in Bangkok. The temple was built in the 16th century, even 200 hundred years before Bangkok was declared as the capital of Thailand. It is renowned for housing a large statue of reclining Buddha which is the largest in Bangkok. A School of traditional Thai massage and a school of medicine is also located inside the temple’s premises. Wat Pho Temple is the icon of the city and one of the most visited attractions in the city. About the Statue of Reclining Buddha

The reclining Buddha inside the temple is holding his head with one of his arms and his legs are together. The statue is 46 m. long and 15 m. high. The feet of the statue are 4.5 meters wide and 3 meters high, and 108 different symbols are engraved on the feet. It depicts Buddha attaining nirvana. The whole statue is covered with gold.

Important Information

As it is a sacred place so you have to remove your shoes before entering the temple. The temple can be visited on any day between 8 am and 5 pm. Entry fees for the temple is 50 Baht and a traditional massage can be enjoyed for 250 Baht.
