Songkhla National Museum is among the many places of interest in the city. Located on Wichian Chom Road, the Chinese-style building housing the museum was built back in 1878 by Phraya Sundranuraksa (Net Na Songkhla) – the then deputy governor of Songkhla province. It initially served as the governor’s residence for a short while before becoming the City Hall, a residence of the city’s upper administrative officers. In 1973, the building was declared a National Monument and in 1982, it was opened as a National Museum. Today, Songkhla National Museum is a place to know more about the region’s history, culture, local archeology and folk art.
