Phra Borom That Chaiya is an ancient Cheddi which is located approximately 50 km from Surat Thani and just 4 km from Suan Mokkh. It is situated in the town of Chaiya which is one of the oldest cities in the country. Some historians have also claimed that Chaiya has served as the capital of the region for some time in the past. According to the claims it was the capital of Srivijaya Kingdom but this claim is largely disputed. It is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Thailand as it houses Buddha relics which are highly revered by Thais. The current building of the Phra Borom That Chaiya has been restored several times. Other than the chedi, many other statues and Buddha images are also located here.
