Phi Phi Islands

Located in the Andaman Sea in the province of Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands are, undoubtedly, one of the major tourist destinations in Thailand. It is a great place for a day trip from Krabi or Phuket. These islands are suitable for both, the tourists who want to relax in isolation and even those who want to party and enjoy various activities at the beach. This beach became famous for two reasons: first because of the Leonardo Di Caprio’s Hollywood movie “The Beach” and the second reason was an unfortunate, tsunami of 2004. The tsunami left the whole island devastated but over years, everything was restored and now Phi Phi Islands host thousands of tourists every year.

Attractions at Phi Phi Islands

The Famous Phi Phi Islands consists of six islands: Ko Phi Phi Don, Ko Yung, Ko Bida Noi, Ko Phi Phi Lee, Ko Bida Nok and Ko Mai Phai. In Thai, the meaning of “Ko” is “island”. Ko Phi Phi Lee and Ko Phi Phi Don are the two largest islands in the group. These islands are part of the Had Nopparattara-Ko Phi Phi National Park and each island has their own features and attractions. Numerous beaches are located here from which the most famous are Maya Beach, Long Beach and Monkey Beach. Phi Phi Islands also attract climbers and divers from all around the world.

Practical Information

To reach Phi Phi Islands, you have to take a ferry which will take around one hour from Krabi and about one and half hour from Phuket. You can also take a ferry from Ko Lanta. But if you prefer traveling by road, then a car rental in Krabi will be your best bet. Walking and cycling are the only options to move around the Islands; no motor vehicles are available there other than motorboats. The best time to visit Phi Phi Islands is from November to April which coincides to dry season.
