Khaolak-Lamru is a national park which was initially meant to be a terrestrial park. In 1995, it was transferred to Marine National Park division as it also covers a few marine resources too. This national park covers an area of about 125 kilometers square and its natural landscape covers cliffs, beaches, hills, dome shaped Granite Mountains and also covers the area of Khao Lak partially. The other interesting fact about the national park is that it was named after the two highest peaks of the region- Lak and Lam Ru.

Why Visit Khaolak-Lamru?
As compared to other pieces of lands covered by the parks, the portion of the coastal area that belongs to Khao Lak certainly seems a mere fraction. It has an impressive collection of fauna and flora which gets a really well suited environment so that they can sustain and grow. There are many evergreen forests situated on the forested hills of the park where many tree-type including epiphytes like orchids, climbers like Rattans and other giant trees. Its flora includes lemur, porcupines, weasels and black giant weasel and numerous kinds of birds such that one can spend quality time by indulging in activities like bird watching and animal sighting etc. This ‘flora and fauna’ scene reaches a different level when the animated number of the flora and fauna of the marshy areas is counted.

Highlights- Waterfalls and Trails
The National Park also has two popular waterfalls namely Chong Fah and Lam Ru. Chong Fah has a 10 meter drop which ends in a pool which is good for swimming. Lam Ru lies in the area of Kradai region; it has a medium fall of about five meters and is perennial in nature. The park has two Namtok Ton Chong Fa Nature trails having a length of about 5 and7 kilometers which takes about 2 and 5 hours respectively. Though these trails are well covered with sign still a guide is important and needed to cover these trails successfully.
