Located 4 km east of Thalang, the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park is a spectacular reserve protects the remains of primitive tropical forest of Phuket. Spread over an area of 22 sq kms, it si the only significant rain forest and wildlife reserve left on the Phuket Island. It is also a conservation development center which protects numerous wildlife species such as Malay sun bear, barking deer, mouse deer, monkeys, pythons, cobras and many birds. Some of the animal species which are found in the reserve are very rare and almost disappeared on the earth. That is why it is one of the most important wildlife reserves in Thailand.

Things to Do at Khao Phra Thaeo National Park

The Khao Phra Thaeo National Park is a must visit attraction for nature lovers. It offers 8 kilometers long trekking path which is spread from Bang Pae waterfall (located near the park headquarter) to Ton Sai. It a perfect place to spend a day walking leisurely through the tropical forest. Within the park, two spectacular waterfalls and many peaks are located where visitors can enjoy hiking. Khao Phra, Khao Bang Pae and Khao Prathiu are the highest peaks in the reserve. If you get lucky, you will be able to see some of very rare and unusual creatures in the forest. The reserve also houses the Phuket Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre which protects Gibbons monkeys.

Important Information

The Khao Phra Thaeo National Park is almost 18 km from the city of Phuket and can be reached from Route 4027. Inside the reserve, you can also hire guides which can make you familiar with all the corners of the forest. Near the waterfall visitor information center and a small museum can be found.
