Prehistoric Paintings
Khao Chan Ngam cave is a naturally well preserved cave which holds highly significant collection of pictorial records that are said to be carved on the walls by an agrarian community; and hence is a great authentic source for scholars and historians. The paintings were discovered in 1938 and include various colored sketches of men, women and children done in red coarse paint. Its shows human forms in various postures and actions: dancing, sitting, firing arrows or hunting.
There are so easily interpreted that the visitors can themselves learn a lot by just observing the pictures for instance, hunting has been described by showing human forms man, women and children alike with bows and arrows in hands with animal like dog etc as companions standing at their heels etc. All the individual illustrations usually depict the part of a big scene and bring across simple themes which convey the daily routine and the prehistoric human’s way of life back then.
