Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park is sprawled on an area that amounts to 52,300 Rai and is endowed with lush forest cover owing to the fact that it is also the watershed area of Prasae River. Established in 1975, Khao Chamao-Khao Wong National Park is the 13th national park and is situated on the southeast of Bangkok, amidst Rayong and Chantaburi. Basically it is part of Khao Chamao Mountain range, is present at an elevation of 1024 meters and is home to varied flora and fauna. Highlights

“Khao Chamao” portion of its name translates to ‘drunken mountain’ and has following highlights: two trails, 80 caves and numerous waterfalls. Attractions

  • It is home to a waterfall which is known for its crystal clear water- Namtok Khao Chamao; it consists of about seven levels of cascade; visitors can follow the trail that will lead one to the waterfall through the lush spectacles of the forest.
  • The national park also has a view point called ‘Pha Sawan-The viewpoint’ which is about 1.5 kilometers from park headquarters.
  • Namtok Khlong Pla Kang- It is known for ferns and orchids
  • Khao Wong – it is known for its 80 limestone caves
  • Kromluang Chumphon Shrine- It houses the statue of a Kromluang Chomphonkhetudomsak who was the founder of Thailand’s modern navy.

The place is also known for its variedly priced accommodations; it has about 17 bungalows that remain open for hire round the year in addition to cheaper options like tents etc. Air-conditioned bungalow/ bungalow with a fan can be hired for 600/400 Baht respectively whereas renting a tent costs 30 baht per day and if one wants to hire a tent for a group it would cost up to 225 Baht per group.
