World Wai Khru Muay Thai Ceremony – 2019

Following an age-old tradition, hundreds of practitioners will thank their martial art gurus for their dedication at the Wai Kru ceremony which starts with Wai, a friendly greeting carried out with folded hands in front of the Kru, the teacher. The Thai society gives a good amount of respect and regard along with a high status to such teachers.

What is Muay Thai?

Also known as Thai boxing, Muay Thai is the cultural martial art of Thailand, involving stand-up fighting but it is different from kickboxing. Also known as, the “art of eight limbs,” this ancient martial art is based upon the usage of the human body as a weapon.

Many movies have been based on this 2000 years old martial art, namely, A Prayer Before Dawn, Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior and The Legend of Muay Thai: 9 Satra. Headquartered in Bangkok, International Federation of Muaythai Amateur is the highest governing body for this type of martial arts.
