Located at the foot of Doi Suthep next to Huai Kaeo Arboretum, Chiang Mai Zoo is a popular tourist attraction in the city. With striking landscapes, Chiang Mai Zoo occupies more than 200 acres of land and houses a wide variety of wild animals and birds from Africa and Asia. Other than wild animals, it has two more attractions which have different entrance: first is aquarium and the second one is pandas. After visiting the famous temples of Chiang Mai, this fascinating zoo is a must visit place, especially for the travelers who have kids with them and it would be an unforgettable experience for the kids.

What To See at Chiang Mai Zoo

The Chiang Mai Zoo contains over 400 different species of wild animals including Tigers, lions, monkeys, elephants, chimpanzees, rhinos and hippos. But the star attraction of the zoo is two giant pandas which were brought here from China in 2003 for panda conservation research project. At Chiang Mai Zoo, visitors can also get a rare opportunity to see and learn about numerous animals such as rabbit, tortoise, crocodile, snakes, Iguana and Koala. The freshwater aquarium of the zoo has the longest tunnel (133 meters) and offers an amazing view of aquatic life. It also offers a bird show and a seal show without any additional cost. The animals of the zoo are kept in a very good condition and all of the animals are healthy.

Useful Information

Chiang Mai Zoo is located at 100 Huay Kaew Road, almost 19 km from the city center. The zoo is easily accessible by public transport but a Chiang Mai car rental is the most comfortable and affordable mode of transportation. The zoo is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. It also has a large parking lot. The zoo also offers bus tours and a monorail journey through the zoo.
