Baan Dam Black House Museum – A Temple Style Art Gallery

WAT PHRA THAT DOI CHOM THONG Posted on: 19th February 2016

Baan Dam (The Black House) Museum is a temple-styled art gallery in Chiang Rai. It is located approximately 10 km from the city center, immediately past the Chiang Rai Airport. Although the gallery is not widely known among the tourists, it has a very different spin to it that can impress any visitor. This artistic creation is found on a fairly sizeable property consisting of roughly 15 temple-shaped black exhibit houses on the site. Moving through each of these black house huts will get you from one exhibit to another. There is a big window on the side of each house through which you can have a view of the several intricate displays within. Entrance, however, is possible in only a few of these houses.

Our Chiang Rai car rental deals are powered by suppliers like Budget and Alamo, which makes sure that the cars provided for hire are well tended to and cover basic inclusions; hence make a booking and visit Chiang Rai and its attractions for a fun and hassle-free ride.

Exhibits You’ve Never Seen Before

The uniqueness of the displays at Baan Dam Museum has much to do with the theme of the entire black house property. They are made using the remains of various dead animals. From moose antlers, to snake skins, to skulls of water buffaloes and even fish hanging down from the roof, nearly everything inside the house is made from animal remains. Despite this, you won’t get the feeling of being at an animal cemetery at all. With all the displays so artistically laid out, the Baan Dam Museum is unlike anything you would have ever seen before.
