Historical Background

It is believed that 1500 years old Khao Kha belonged to a community where Lord Shiva was worshiped as the highest God and hence owing to its historical importance the site was totally restored and renovated by ‘Fine Arts Department’ in 1997. After bestowing it with this status the place was opened to the public. As per the Lingams and the Yonis and other things that were found and can still be seen at the place, Khao Kha is a site that once belonged to people of Sawai Nikai Brahman sect; it resembles the mystical site of Khao Phra Sumen where the worshiping place acts as the center.

Khao Kha Archaeological Site also contains some other secondary historical sites where artifacts like phallic symbols and water pipes etc have been found including an ancient pond. There is a small museum at the entrance plus a number of ruins and artifacts can be seen scattered all over the archeological site. The most interesting one is at the hilltop where the laterite shrine’s remains can be found and though for that one has to walk 150 steps uphill, it is worth the pain. It is of great importance as it can be easily guessed by the fact that archeologists still continue to study the archeological site.

How to Reach There?

One needs to take Highway No. 401 if driving in his/her own vehicle or a rental and on reaching Km. stone marking 99 one should take a left turn towards Chinda Pracha Sawan Road and drive on for another 5 km to reach Khao Kha. A car rental would prove a best transfer option while making this trip to Nakhon Si Thammarat; hence book a reasonable car hire deal with us at Thailand Cars Rentals.
